How to Turn the Common Door Phone Intercom into a Video Intercom

A home or office inter-communication devices function much more than just to call family members to dinner or to call someone for a phone call. Increasing the overall security at home and office, these security gadgets provide an opportunity to ensure the identity of individual outside before giving them permission to enter your building.
Furthermore, you can enhance your home or office security using a proximity access control that allows you to see and speak to visitor before opening the door. In this way, these security systems provide an extra level of protection and security for home and businesses.
These security gadgets work in combination with a camera unit and a display monitor/ master station. The camera unit is placed outside the designated area (in most cases the entrance door) while the master stations is mounted inside. Installation of video inter-communication devices need only simple wiring as well as some moderate carpentry tasks.
Here are some steps that a one must follow for the successful installation and working of video security systems –
Things Required:

  • Electrical drill machine
  • Lead pencil
  • Screws
  • Wire connectors
  • Cables and extra components
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Saber saw
  • Caulk gun

Steps for installation:

Fix the monitor:
Place the master station on the wall and trace it using a lead pencil. Now, use an electrical drill machine to make medium sized holes at four corners in the traced area of the wall and place the master station in the drilled hole.

Mount the camera of the security equipment:
Select the right location outside the office or home so that you can properly see the visitors seeking permission to enter your building. If the system contains brackets, then simply measure holes in it and drill the holes of exact size and fix the video camera on the selected area with the help of wall screws.

Fix the wiring:
Turn off the power supply before fixing wiring so to protect you from electrical shock. Now, connect the camera wire to the monitor. Skip this step if you are installing wireless system.

Testing:
Make sure that all the wires and links are connected properly prior to test the functioning of the video security device.

Now, turn-on the power supply and confirm the functioning of the installed system by asking someone to stand outside and check the image from the camera inside to ensure that audio-video system is operating properly. Seal up the gaps if any with the help of caulk gun in order to give smooth finishing to tour project.
